Broadway Musical Theatre Class - grades 4th-9th
Join us for 8 weeks of singing, acting and dancing our way through some of Broadway’s most memorable moments on stage that involve mostly young people !! Classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment so don’t worry if you feel a bit nervous. Most of the time you will be singing in a group, although if you do want to leap into the spotlight there's the opportunity for some solos too! We will explore songs and scenes from musicals such as: Annie, Oliver,
Matilda, Peter Pan and so much more….
At the end of 10 weeks we will present our musical creations to our friends and family.
Any material covered within the class, will also be available online,
to be accessed and practiced at home during the course.

Classes begin Sunday, February 21 - April 17, 2016 from 1-3 PM
Tuition: $200 for 8 Weeks of class (only $25 per 2 hour class)

Adult Musical Theatre Class for Beginner & Intermediate Performers
Our Beginners Musical Theatre class will introduce you to the fundamental techniques needed to perform on stage, and is the perfect way to explore the magic of musicals. We select the repertoire from the popular musical theatre work including composers like Meredith Wilson, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Schonberg- Boublil, Kander and Ebb - and many more. Classes are taught in a fun and supportive environment so don’t worry if you feel a bit nervous. Most of the time you will be singing in a group, although if you do want to leap into the spotlight there's the opportunity for some solos too!
Musical Theatre Course Content
Exact content may differ depending on students' needs and this course duration, but topics generally covered include:
- Integrate singing, movement and acting
- Focus on putting on large ensemble pieces and duets as well as exploration of solo performing
- Learn vocal material from a wide variety of musical theatre styles like: Mame, Les Miserable, Quilters, World Goes Round, West Side Story, and much more.
- Vocal and physical warm ups to work on Musical Theatre technique
- Rehearse and hone material before an informal showcase to friends and family
Although this workshop is an introduction to musical theatre, it is not intended for voice beginners. Participants in the Musical Theatre Workshop should have some previous experience singing in choirs or musicals or have taken at least a term of private or group singing lessons.
Please send your show or song ideas to Melissa Williams for consideration for class repertoire. No guarantee it will be selected for classroom use, but she will try.

Ukulele Club at SoFA
Led by instructor Justin Hoffenberg for ages 7-14, this class introduces basic topics of the popular, guitar-like instrument, the hawaiian Ukulele. Students will learn to sing, play, and strum their way through popular tunes while having a grand time. Times: Tuesdays, 4-5 p.m. Dates: September 1 - December 8 (No class 11/24) Tuition: $195. Students must purchase a Ukulele (est. $40) before the first class. |

SoFA Ukulele Philharmonic Led by instructor Justin Hoffenberg, this group meets in a casual atmosphere to learn the basics of chords, strumming, and approaching new tunes. The Ukulele is small, guitar-like, and of Hawaiian origin, and is quickly gaining popularity as an inexpensive and accessible string instrument that lends itself easily to a fun and rewarding musical experience. Times: Wednesdays, 7-8 p.m. Dates: September 9 - December 9 (No class Wednesday, November 25). Tuition: $195. Students must purchase a Ukulele (est. $40) before the first class. Acoustic Guitar Class for Adult Beginners In this class, learn chord accompanying, fingerpicking, and basic music theory components in a fun, supportive environment led by SoFA instructor Justin Hoffenberg. Times & Dates: TBA Based on availability of participants. More information: Email info@offbroadwayfinearts.org Voice Class Feel more comfortable and enjoy expressing yourself with your singing voice! In this class, you’ll learn basic vocal technique including good posture, breathing, phrasing, and interpretation of musical theatre song literature. This class is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of expressing yourself through song. We will discuss stage presence, connecting with an audience, lyric interpretation and communicating effectively with your accompanist. Please note that this is not a course for the timid. You will be asked to stand up and sing with – or in front of – others on a weekly basis! The last class will be an informal presentation for family and friends. Times: Mondays, 6:30-8 p.m. Dates: September 14 - December 7 (No class Monday, November 23). Tuition: $195. |
